ATM, online banking safe from ransomware attacks - Bernama

KUALA LUMPUR: The electronic messages on disruption of online/Internet banking and automated teller machine (ATM) services, possibly due to ransomware attacks, that have been circulating via social media are not true, said the Association of Banks in Malaysia (ABM).

The association said member banks that offered online/Internet banking and ATM services had confirmed that these services were operating as usual.

“While some ATMs around the country may experience occasional downtime during this period, such unavailability of ATM services were merely due to normal maintenance issues, such as machine replenishment requirements or routine system management,” it said in a statement on Wednesday.

ABM said the commercial banking industry viewed cyber security matters seriously and had always been vigilant in managing risks relating to the same.

Efforts were continuously made to ensure that appropriate control measures and best practices involving robust check and balance mechanisms with timely transaction monitoring were in place, it added. - Bernama
